Okay this one's for the ballers, strictly for the ballers! If you are tired of the Bay Area, why not catch a flight to sin city? It is going down in Las Vegas on NYE! The Crystals Mall is a 500,000 square foot retail entertainment playground. It's modeled after Dubai World, and will feature high end shops such as; Louis Vuitton, H. Stern Jewelry Boutique. Of course the celebs will be in full effect; Diddy will launch the grand opening of his new club Vanity on NYE, and be sure to grab a snack at Eva Longoria's restaurant Beso. WOW. Haute Displays

One of my favorite holiday pastimes is observing window displays. I'm always amazed by the creativity at the various retailers. Above are a few from the San Francisco Union Square area. OK, where have I been? How did I let this slip past me? I had no idea Norma Kamali had a line at Walmart, and apparently her clothes have been in the stores since 08'. We all remeber her 80's collection with the humongous shoulder pads. Well, the shoulder pads are no longer, and the current collection offers casual affordable looks. Haute Holiday Hair

I don't know where the time went? All of a sudden it's November! Okay, so we have Thanksgiving, Christmas, and NYE around the corner; with that being said you must look HAUTE for all the holiday parties and what nots. Ladies I've compiled some of my favorite Haute Holiday Hair Tips.....here we go:

1) Fro Hawk: This hair style is not for everyone! You must be confident and a true curly girly like myself! I must say this is my staple hair dew for right now. Calling all my natural hair stylistas; you will definitely stand out with the Fro Hawk. To attain this look: twist the hair with a little leave in conditioner or your styler of choice, in the morning untwist & use two side combs and spike at the top with fingers. Voila! Ultra haute.

2) Classic Chignon: You can never go wrong with the perfect Chignon; it's classy and simplistic. You will need tons of bobby pins and hairspray or wax for those fly aways.

3) Big Curls: Another one of my favs; I guess you can tell I love big hair! The bigger the better, just as long as the outfit is simple. For me hair can be an accessory, so work it out! You'll need to roller set your tresses and tease, tease, tease. I'd rock this dew for NYE, would be haute. Get your Keri Bradshaw on!

4) Smooth Operator: Get those Chi flat irons out to achieve this look. Some of you ladies like straight sleek hair every now and again. Remember to use a heat protectant before flat ironing. This look is indeed sexy.

Ladies and gentlemen, the return of FUBU. I never saw this one coming. Come on now, don't act like you didn't sport some FUBU back in the day! I think I had some FUBU jeans. The urban clothing giant was introduced back in 1992 by founder Daymond John, and it slated to be reintroduced in the fall of 2010. FUBU was the first real mainstream urban clothing line, with such endorsements from LL Cool J. I think after LL the line started to get over saturated and cheesy. Anybody remember Cross Colors? Yikes! Let's hope they don't make a comeback. With the economy in dire straits this will be interesting to watch. *For those young folks out there FUBU is an acronym meaning: For Us By Us-produced by African Americans for African Americans.

Super Smoky

The smoky eye is a look that is going to be around for a while. The heavier black liner combined with the smoky shadows, as seen on J-Lo, add high drama to any evening. GOOD HAIR

Chris Rock's "Good Hair" starts today. This buzzworthy film has been the center of much controversy, from the lawsuits, to some accusing Rock of insulting the Black woman by letting others in on our "little secrets"; they are laughing at us rather than with us. I personally cant wait to see this documentary, I mean this is the Chris Rock that we love so much, the comic that attacks issues that affect the African American community with spot on humor and witty intelligence. For many women, not just women of color, their hair is their crown and glory, and Rock is exposing the great measures women take to maintain their glorious locks. As an African American woman that has worn my hair natural, relaxed, faded (so short I went to the barber), and weaved down my back, I can say with confidence that my hair does not define me. I use hair color, length, etc. just as I do any other beauty accessory, simply as an enhancement. With those enhancements, I have a few of my own personal hair horror stories. There were those times I sat in the stylist's chair refusing to inform her that the relaxer had my head on fire because I wanted my hair to reach its maximum silkiness; hey what's a few chemical burns. Or, perhaps there were those occasions that my hair was braided so tightly that I had to take Tylenol for pain relief. Then there was the time my stylist tried to "streak" the front of my hair, and it turned green. I could go on and on, so ladies we need to lighten up, we must admit some of the pain we endure for the sake of beauty can be humorous, and down right ridiculous. So, Rock being a man married to a lovely African American woman, with two beautiful Black little girls, I don't think it is his intent to insult the Black woman.

Hemlines Hint: Shopping for Vintage Jewelry

Educate: "Vintage" is a broad term, so shop around to get a sense of what you like and the range of prices.

Timing: Get to flea markets, estate sales, etc. first thing in the morning, right when the doors open. You'll see huddles formed around the best booths. Those dealers will be the first to sell out.

Making Deals: Dealers have two prices; one for retail, one for the trade. So don't ask too many questions. If you see a piece you want, say in a business tone, "What's the dealers' price? I'll pay cash." Cash will get you a nice discount, and it's unlikely you'll be asked to prove you're in the industry.

Vintage costume jewelry can add character to any ensemble. A broach can spice up that fall cardigan or winter coat. Layer several vintage, short necklaces varying in style for an unexpected pop with a tee or tank; add your favorite jeans and boots for a haute night out. The possibilities are endless, and the flair is nice on the budget.
